Wev’e only got time for a snippet, so I was talked into buying a Maton guitar by my friend Kim, he was lead singer guitarist in a blues band that famously got to play at the Bridgetown Blues Festival. Anyway, I was coming over to his house and singing, and singing at home on a karaoke machine that judged your performance, and mainly getting tomatoes.

I walked into a music shop and bought the best guitar I could afford. The guy in the shop asked if I wanted to play it?. I was 33 years old and had just given up years of very heavy drinking and smoking and got fit as a fiddle. I told him I wouldn’t even know how to strum it. He looked at me like I was crazy, and he was right. I went to guitar lessons once a week, did all my homework, tried to learn the next bit in front of the teacher, and tried to learn songs on the side.

A year later I played a bass for the first time at a late night party and found my way in. The Maton sat in the corner for a while myself and the Spector Legend went to lessons. Since then there have been untold hours of practice and continual learning whilst still only scratching the surface.

I ended up playing in bands around the Tablelands here and there, but life gets in the way and they fall apart. I either quit or got myself sacked on a couple of occasions, just to be free of it.

The discovery of Ultimate Guitar and Karaoke Version backing tracks made it possible for me to become the lead singer bass player without the logistics of coordinating a full band.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the show.
